Charles Swanson graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design in 1989 with a Master of Fine Arts in Furniture Design. He is the recipient of numerous awards including fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts and the New England Foundation for the Arts.
His work has been exhibited in or collected by the following museums:
- The Elvehjem Museum in Madison, Wisconsin
- The Rhode Island School of Design/Museum of Art in Providence, Rhode Island
- The Neuberger Museum of Art in Purchase, New York
- The Museum of History and Art in Anchorage, Alaska

In 1990, Swanson became co-founder of Birth of Venus Studios, LLC, a cooperative art studio in New Bedford, Massachusetts. Today, he is the General Manager of Birth of Venus Studios, teaches in the MFA program at the Rhode Island School of Design, and is known to make a delicious apple pie. |
