Frequently Asked Questions

1. Can I have a fountain made in a custom color?

We can do a wide range of custom colors. The up-charge is determined on a case by case basis depending on the color desired. Generally speaking, the red, yellow and green families of color can be accomplished fairly easily with economical pigments. A wide range of blues are available also, except that the pigments required for the blues are more expensive those for the other color families. The reds, greens and yellows will be charged at a rate of approximately 10% of the stone fountain cost with a minimum charge of $105 per color. For colors containing blue pigments the charge will be quoted depending on the intensity of the color required.

2. What are the fountains made from?

Our stone products are made from a cousin of concrete called dry cast stone. The dry cast process is one that involves mixing a high percentage of cement together with various sands and only a little water. This material is hammer tamped into a hard fiberglass mold. Our cast stone material has porosity and durability characteristics that are very similar to natural limestone, a material that has been used outdoors for centuries.

The following is a quote from the Cast Stone Institute, www.caststone.org

"The earliest known use of Cast Stone dates about to the year 1138 and was seen at Carcassonne, France, the Cité which contains the finest remains of medieval fortification in Europe. Cast Stone was first used extensively in London in the year 1900 and gained widespread acceptance in America in 1920.

Today, Cast Stone is a truly superior alternative to natural cut building stone. Combined with its ability to simulate or reproduce an almost limitless variety of natural stones, Cast Stone offers many advantages over cut stone. Cast Stone can be … precisely colored through aggregates or mineral oxides. Mix designs have tested engineering values which result in a predictable durable life. Strength and weathering qualities are consistently better than natural stone because the manufacturing process is controlled."

3. Will these fountains withstand harsh winter exposure?

All of our products are capable of remaining out doors all winter. We are constantly testing our mixes and finishes to bring you the most durable product possible. Of course common sense dictates that water features should remain drained in the winter with any pumps removed to a warm dry place. Covering is also recommended if possible (for all concrete type products) in order to protect the finish, color and to maximize the service life.

4. Do you have AutoCAD files available for your pieces?

We have AutoCad files for all of our objects alone or as part of a re-circulating system. Please email with your requirements.

5. What is the finish used on your pieces?

All of our objects are sealed with our blend of Layorcare sealers to create the proper sheen. The use of any other sealer product on our pieces may void your warranty. Layorcare sealers have a predicted life of 3-5 years depending on exposure conditions and are available in pre-blended quarts from us or in non-blended gallons from Layorcare directly.
